Alison Smith Mangiero
Alison Smith Mangiero, '05, is a recovering political scientist interested in the ways that blockchain technology will drive social, political, and economic innovation. She currently serves as the Executive Director of the Proof of Stake Alliance (POSA), an organization that advocates for clear and forward-thinking public policies that foster innovation in the sustainable, rapidly growing, multi-billion-dollar proof-of-stake industry.
Aliso began working in blockchain in 2018, when she founded the Tocqueville Group (“TQ”), an entity that created open-source software and other public goods for one of the first proof-of-stake blockchains to launch. Before founding TQ, Alison ran the Manhattan Institute’s Adam Smith Society, a nationwide, chapter-based association of free-market MBA students and business leaders. She managed the group from its inception with four students at Harvard Business School and grew it to more than 10,000 students across 30 chapters at top U.S. business schools. She also served as an instructor of political science at the College of the Holy Cross, taught as a pre-doctoral fellow in the Department of Leadership and American Studies at Christopher Newport University, and was a visiting scholar at the Jepson School.
A passionate advocate of the liberal arts, Alison most recently taught courses on leadership, entrepreneurship, and public policy at the College of the Holy Cross, where until recently she served as the College’s director of New York City Programs.
She holds a B.A. in political science and leadership studies with honors from the University of Richmond, and an M.A. (Ph.D. ABD) in political science from Boston College. Alison lives in the New York City suburbs with her husband, Dan Mangiero, '06, and two young daughters, Lena and Emily.
